So, the other night, I found myself needing a drink, fast. Wasn’t a bad day or anything, just felt like winding down, you know? But I didn’t want any fuss. None of that shaking, straining, measuring tiny amounts of weird liqueurs. I just wanted something simple, alcoholic, and quick.

My Go-To Speed Drink
My first thought? Raid the fridge and the kinda sad liquor cabinet I’ve got. Found a bottle of vodka, pretty standard stuff. Then spotted some sparkling water, the lemon-flavored kind. Okay, we’re getting somewhere. Ice? Check. Glass? Check.
Here’s literally what I did:
- Grabbed a tumbler glass. Nothing fancy.
- Filled it maybe halfway with ice cubes. Straight from the freezer tray.
- Poured in some vodka. Didn’t measure. Maybe two fingers high? Seemed about right.
- Topped it off with that lemon sparkling water. Let it fizz up.
- Stirred it once with a spoon I grabbed from the drying rack.
And that was it. Took me, what, maybe 30 seconds? It wasn’t going to win any awards, but it was cold, fizzy, had a bit of a kick, and a hint of lemon. Job done.
Tried Another Simple One Later
Got a bit more adventurous a few days later. Had some friends pop over unexpectedly. Panic stations? Nah. Remembered I had some white rum lurking behind the gin.
This time I did this:

- Ice in glasses again. Standard procedure.
- Poured a slug of white rum into each glass. Again, eyeballing it.
- Found a carton of pineapple juice in the fridge door. Poured that over the rum and ice, leaving a bit of space.
- Remembered I had a can of coconut water. Added a splash of that on top. Just a splash.
- Gave it a quick swirl. Didn’t even need a spoon this time.
Boom. Instant vaguely tropical vibes. Took maybe a minute per drink because I was doing a few. Super easy, tasted pretty decent, and used up stuff I already had. No fancy shakers, no hard-to-find ingredients. Just pouring stuff into a glass.
Honestly, sometimes keeping it simple is the best way. Less cleanup too, which is always a bonus in my book. Give it a try when you just want something easy. Works for me.
