Okay, so I threw this party last weekend with a money theme, kinda fun right? And I got really into making the food match the vibe. Wanted to share how I actually did it, ’cause it turned out pretty cool.

Getting the Ideas Rolling

First off, I just started thinking, what looks like money or screams rich? Obvious stuff came up, like gold and green colors, dollar signs, coins, you know. I didn’t want anything super complicated ’cause, honestly, I’m not a pro chef. Just wanted easy stuff that looked the part. I kinda mashed together a few ideas I saw floating around and things I thought I could actually pull off.

Making the “Gold Coins”

This one was pretty straightforward. I decided against just buying chocolate coins, wanted to make something.

  • I grabbed some basic sugar cookie dough from the store. Yeah, I cheated a bit, didn’t make it from scratch.
  • Rolled it out, not too thin, and used a small round cutter, like a bottle cap size, to make lots of little circles.
  • Baked them following the package directions. Let them cool down completely. This part’s important.
  • Then the fun part: I got edible gold food spray. Took the cookies outside (definitely do this outside or put down lots of newspaper!) and sprayed one side of each cookie gold. Let it dry, then sprayed the other side.
  • They looked awesome! Like little gold doubloons or something. Super easy.

Trying “Dollar Bill” Wafers

This was a bit more fiddly. I wanted something rectangular like paper money.

  • I bought those plain rectangular wafer cookies. The vanilla ones.
  • My first idea was green icing, but that sounded messy. So, I found green fruit roll-ups.
  • I unrolled a fruit roll-up, trimmed it a bit wider than the wafer.
  • Carefully wrapped it around the middle of the wafer cookie, like a money band. It was sticky, so it held okay.
  • I tried drawing a little ‘$’ sign on the green band with some black decorating gel, but my art skills are terrible, haha. Some looked okay, others were just smudges. Still, they looked kinda like bundled cash!

Creating “Money Bags”

These were more about assembly than cooking.

  • I found some small beige drawstring pouches online. The kind people use for wedding favors.
  • Bought a big bag of chocolate coins (yeah, I used store-bought ones here!).
  • Filled each little pouch with a bunch of the chocolate coins. Didn’t stuff them too full.
  • Took a black permanent marker and drew a big dollar sign ‘$’ on the front of each bag.
  • Lined them up on the table. They looked like little sacks of loot, it was great.

Simple Green Dip & “Gold” Chips

Needed something savory. Easiest thing? Guacamole! It’s already green.

  • I just bought a couple of tubs of decent store-bought guacamole. Again, keeping it simple.
  • Put it in a nice bowl.
  • Served it with yellow corn tortilla chips. Called them my “gold” chips. Close enough, right?

Putting It All Together

Arranging it was key. I scattered some fake paper money (like, play money) around the food platters. Used a couple of gold-colored serving trays I had. The cookies went on one, the wafer “bills” on another, money bags grouped together, and the dip in the middle. It really brought the money theme home.

Overall? It was a hit! People thought the themed food was really clever, especially the gold cookies and money bags. Nothing was too hard to make, just took a bit of time with the spraying and wrapping. Totally worth it for the party vibe. Glad I gave it a shot.
