Asda party food (Grab some now!)

Right, so the other week, we had a bit of a last-minute family get-together. Nothing too fancy, just a casual Sunday afternoon thing, but you know how it is, you still need to put out a bit of a spread. My first thought, as it often is when I need to feed a crowd without much fuss, was Asda. They just seem to have a decent range of bits and bobs that you can throw together pretty easily.

My Usual Approach to Asda Party Food Runs

So, what I usually do, and what I did this time, is I first mentally run through who’s coming. Kids? Any veggies? Anyone with a particularly sweet tooth? This helps me narrow down the chaos a bit before I even step into the store. I don’t usually bother too much with their website for pre-ordering party food, I like to see it, you know? See what looks fresh or what deals they’ve got on the day.

I headed down there on a Saturday morning, figuring it would be well-stocked. My mission was simple: get a variety of things that are easy to serve, taste decent, and won’t break the bank. I made a beeline for their chilled party food section, which is usually my main hunting ground.

Here’s a rundown of what I tend to look for and what I grabbed:

  • Savoury bits: These are always the backbone. I picked up a couple of packs of their mini sausage rolls – they always go down well, especially if you warm them up a bit. Then, some mini quiches; I think they were cheese and onion. Also grabbed some of those little cocktail sausages. You can’t go wrong with them.
  • Dips and Dippers: Essential! I got a big tub of hummus, a sour cream and chive dip, and then a couple of bags of tortilla chips and some breadsticks. Easy peasy.
  • Something a bit more substantial (but still easy): I spotted some mini pizzas. Perfect for just whacking in the oven. And a pack of their pre-cooked chicken drumsticks – always a winner and no cooking required on my part!
  • Sweet Treats: You’ve got to have something sweet, right? I wasn’t going for a full-on birthday cake, so I grabbed a pack of their mini chocolate eclairs and a tray of those little brownie bites. Always popular. And a big bowl of fruit salad, just to pretend we were being a bit healthy.

I also swung by the crisps aisle, naturally. Got a couple of big multi-packs with different flavours. And don’t forget the drinks – some fizzy pop for the kids and a few bottles of juice.

Getting it All Ready

Back home, it was all pretty straightforward. Most of it was just opening packets and arranging things on platters. The sausage rolls and mini pizzas went into the oven for about 15-20 minutes before people started arriving. I like to keep it low-stress. The less faffing in the kitchen, the more time I get to actually chat with everyone.

The verdict? Well, it all went down a treat. People were grazing, the kids were happy munching on sausage rolls and crisps, and there wasn’t a huge amount left over, which I always take as a good sign. It wasn’t gourmet, obviously, but for a casual gathering, Asda’s party food range really does the job. It’s convenient, offers enough variety, and you can cater for a decent number of people without spending a fortune or hours cooking.

So yeah, that was my latest Asda party food haul. Pretty standard stuff for me, but it works every time. Just keep it simple, get a good mix, and don’t overthink it!
