My Lunasia Dim Sum Adventure
Okay so last Sunday I woke up craving dim sum hardcore. Heard Lunasia was the real deal but never tried it before. Grabbed two friends who’d never been either – total newbie squad rolling in at 11am.
First shocker: the parking lot looked like a damn concert venue. Cars circling like vultures. Took us 20 minutes just to park. Pro tip: arrive when they open or prepare to wait. When we got inside, the hostess handed us this paper menu with like hundred items. Felt overwhelming AF.
Here’s how we handled the ordering chaos:
Step 1: Tick the boxes
- Started safe with shrimp dumplings – har gow (section A)
- Pork siu mai (also section A)
- Panicked and added random B items: BBQ pork buns and turnip cake
Server came to collect our sheet looking impatient. Saw another table had chicken feet and were laughing at our confused faces. Said screw it and flagged her down again to add chicken feet and rice noodles.
Big mistake: we didn’t notice the portions are smaller than regular Chinese spots. Our first round arrived with just three tiny bamboo steamers. All three of us staring at four shrimp dumplings like “yo this ain’t family style?”

Round two ordering got aggressive:
- Doubled down on shrimp dumplings
- Added two egg tarts
- Threw in sesame balls because the table next door smelled amazing
- Friend shouted “CRISPY NOODLES!” last second
The tea situation was wild too – they kept refilling this giant pot but never told us what kind it was. Tasted like jasmine? Just went with it.
What I’d Do Different Next Time
Learned some painful lessons:
- Write your order full the first time – servers disappear for ages
- Each dish serves 1-2 people max, order like you’re feeding an army
- The paper menu’s tiny sections matter – A items come out way faster than E
- Bring cash just in case – heard stories about card minimums
Final damage? $75 for three people with leftovers. Not terrible. That crispy noodle dish saved our asses – best carb bomb ever. Would I go back? Hell yes, but I’m bringing my own Sharpie to mark that damn menu faster.
