Okay, so, Alice in Wonderland party food, right? It sounded super fun, and honestly, I went a little overboard. Here’s the whole shebang, from idea to tummy-filling success (or hilarious fail, in some cases!).

First off, the inspiration. I re-watched the Disney movie (the animated one, classic!) and jotted down all the food-related scenes. Remember the Mad Hatter’s tea party? Golden. That was my starting point. Then I hopped online for ideas, but mostly I just wanted to DO things, like right now!

Next up: The shopping spree! This was dangerous. I ended up with way more than I needed. Think sprinkles, food coloring, mini marshmallows, a mountain of cookies, different teas, and even edible glitter (because why not?). I even grabbed a cheap tiered cake stand from the thrift store. Looked kinda wonky, but that just added to the charm, you know?

Let’s get cooking! This is where things got real. I started with the easiest: “Eat Me” cookies. I bought plain sugar cookies (cheating, I know, but time!), iced them in pastel colors, and wrote “Eat Me” with a food-safe marker. Simple, but effective.

Then I tackled the “Drink Me” potion. I mixed different fruit juices (cranberry, apple, and a little pineapple) and added a splash of grenadine for color. Poured it into little glass bottles I found at a craft store and tied handmade “Drink Me” tags on with ribbon. These looked SO GOOD.

Things got a bit ambitious with the Queen of Hearts’ tarts. I tried to make homemade pastry, and… well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. The crust was either too crumbly or too tough. Ended up using store-bought mini graham cracker crusts. Filled them with strawberry jam and topped with a tiny heart cut out of pie crust. They were cute, at least.

For something savory, I made caterpillar skewers. Green grapes and cherry tomatoes alternated on a skewer, with mini chocolate chips for eyes. They were surprisingly popular, even with the adults.

Tea Time! I brewed a bunch of different teas – Earl Grey, chamomile, even a weird blueberry one I found. I had mismatched teacups and saucers (again, thrift store score!). Little sandwiches – cucumber and cream cheese, ham and swiss – cut into triangles. Super fancy, right?

Decoration time! This was almost as fun as the food. I used playing cards as decorations, scattered them around the table. I also hung up paper lanterns and streamers in bright colors. And of course, a little “Alice” doll in the center of the table.

The Big Day. Everything looked amazing! Even with the tart crust disaster and the slightly lopsided cake stand. People actually ate the stuff, which was a relief. The “Drink Me” potion was a hit, and the kids went crazy for the caterpillar skewers.

The Verdict? It was a blast! Stressful, messy, and I definitely spent too much money. But seeing everyone enjoy the food and the atmosphere made it totally worth it. Plus, I have a ton of leftover sprinkles now, so I’m basically set for life.

  • Lessons Learned: Don’t attempt pastry if you’re short on time. Store-bought crusts are your friend.
  • Edible glitter makes everything better.
  • Over-planning is real, but so is the joy of a themed party!

Would I do it again?

Heck yeah! Maybe tone down the ambition a little next time, but definitely. Alice in Wonderland is just too good of a theme to pass up. And honestly, who doesn’t love an excuse to eat tiny sandwiches and drink weirdly colored juice?
