Okay, so I’ve been on this gluten-free journey for a while now, and let me tell you, finding a decent pie crust that doesn’t taste like cardboard has been a real struggle. But, I’m not one to give up easily, especially when it comes to pie. So, I decided to dive deep into the world of frozen gluten-free pie crusts.

First, I hit up all the grocery stores near me. I grabbed a bunch of different brands, some I’d heard of, some totally new. The mission? Find a frozen gluten-free pie crust that’s easy to use, tastes good, and doesn’t cost a fortune.
I started with the Wholly Gluten Free Pie Shells. Now, I’d seen these around, and the packaging looked promising. Getting them out of the freezer, they seemed pretty solid, which is a good start. Then I tried the Marie Callender’s Deep Dish Pastry Pie Shells. These looked pretty good, too.
Next up, I grabbed some Oronoque Orchards Deep Dish Pie Crusts. These were a bit of a wild card, but hey, you never know. Then I grabbed some other brands that I’d never heard of before.
- Wholly Gluten Free: These were super easy to handle since they came in their own pans. Just pop them in the oven. The texture was okay, but the taste? A bit bland, to be honest.
- Marie Callender’s: These were also simple to bake. They turned out pretty flaky, and the taste was definitely better than the first one. A solid option, I’d say.
- Oronoque Orchards: I had high hopes for these, but they were a bit of a letdown. The crust was a little too crumbly for my liking, and the flavor wasn’t anything special.
- The Others: There were a couple of other brands I tested out, but nothing really stood out. Some were too sweet, others too hard. It was a mixed bag.
The Bake-Off
After all that baking and tasting, I have to say, Marie Callender’s was the winner for me. It hit the right notes of being easy to use and actually tasting like a pie crust should. Wholly Gluten Free was okay if you’re in a pinch, but it wasn’t my favorite. But you know what you can do to save time? Just buy these premade pie crusts!
So, there you have it. My adventure in the frozen gluten-free pie crust world. It’s not always easy finding good gluten-free options, but when you do, it’s totally worth it. Keep on baking, folks!
