Listen up, you! Today, I’m gonna tell ya all about this thing called dim sum. It’s some kinda food, seems like. I heard folks talkin’ ’bout it, and it got me thinkin’, “What in tarnation is this dim sum?”
So, I did some lookin’ around, like a hen in a feed store. Turns out, this dim sum thing is some kinda Chinese food. Yeah, you heard that right, Chinese! Like that place way over yonder across the big ol’ ocean. I ain’t never been, but I seen it on the TV.
Now, they say this dim sum ain’t just one thing. It’s a whole bunch of little things. Like when you go to a potluck, and there’s all them little dishes everywhere. That’s kinda what it sounds like. Lots of little bites of this and that. They call it “tapas” too, but I don’t know about that. It’s like saying something fancy but we still understand what they are talking about.
I seen some pictures, and it looks like them little dumplings they got at that Chinese place down the road. You know, the one with the red sign? They got all kinds of stuff in ’em. Meat, veggies, shrimp… you name it. I reckon it’s probably tasty, though I ain’t tried it myself yet.
And get this – they say you can get this dim sum stuff all over the place! Not just in China, but right here in the good ol’ USA. Every state, they say! Can you believe it? I thought you had to go way out yonder to find that kind of food. I reckon those Chinese folks spread out more than I thought.
Now, if you’re lookin’ to buy dim sum, I heard there’s a place called “Yelp” where you can find it. I ain’t sure what that is, but sounds like some kinda phone book for food. They say you can find all sorts of places on there. Dim sum, burgers, tacos, you name it. I guess you can even write something on there to tell others about your experience, you know, like the gossip after church.
There’s even a place called “Nom Wah Tea Parlor” in New York. Sounds mighty fancy, don’t it? Like one of them places where they stick their pinky out when they drink tea. I bet they got some good dim sum there, though. New York’s a big place, gotta have all kinds of food there, I reckon.
And if you’re in Washington, DC, like where all them politicians are, they say there’s plenty of dim sum there too. Seems like even the big shots like to eat them little dumplings. They say they are in a place called “the heart”. I guess this place is very popular.
Now I’m getting hungry think about food. Here’s what I learned about dim sum, all laid out like a quilt:
- It’s Chinese food.
- It’s lots of little dishes, not just one big thing.
- You can find it all over the USA, not just in China.
- There’s this thing called “Yelp” that can help you find it.
- Even them fancy folks in New York and Washington, DC eat it.
- It makes my stomach rumble just thinking about it.
So, there you have it. Everything I know about this dim sum stuff. Maybe one day I’ll try it myself. If I do, I’ll be sure to let y’all know what I think. But for now, I think I’ll go see if I can find some chicken and dumplings. That’s good eatin’ right there.
Buy dim sum, you say? Well, it sounds like an adventure. I think it is easy to find some dim sum near me. Might be worth a try if you’re feelin’ adventurous. Just don’t go expectin’ it to be like grandma’s cookin’. It’s a whole different kind of food, that’s for sure. But different ain’t always bad. Sometimes, different can be downright delicious.

One more thing. I heard those people say this dim sum is good for you. You know, healthy and all that. I don’t know about that, but it is a good reason to try it out, right? You know, all that green stuff, and maybe some of that fish they put in there. I guess it is better than some of that junk food you see folks eatin’ these days.
I guess some folks even make dim sum at home. Can you imagine? I can barely make cornbread without burnin’ it. If you are trying to make it, good luck to you. But maybe it is easier than I think. Maybe I will look it up and see what it is all about.
