Okay so this morning I grabbed my coffee and scrolled through Insta seeing all these cute hairstyles that looked super easy. I thought “heck why not try them myself?” So I grabbed a mirror and my hair stuff – just basic things like hair ties, claw clips, and a brush – no fancy tools needed really.
Started with the Claw Clip Thing Everyone’s Doing
Saw like ten tutorials for those big claw clip updos. Tried twisting my hair into a low bun first like they showed. First attempt flopped because my hair’s kinda slippery. Then I remembered someone saying “scruff it up first” so I messed up my roots with fingers before clipping. Held way better but still slid sideways after 20 minutes. Threw in another smaller clip at the back – bam! Actually stayed put. Took me three tries but it’s stupid easy now once you get the grip right.
Moved on to Bubble Ponytails
YouTube makes this look like child’s play. Put my hair in a high ponytail first, then split it into sections with these clear tiny bands. But when I pulled the sections? Looked totally flat and sad. Watched one vid again and realized they were tugging the bubbles gently outward for volume. Did that plus teased bits near my crown with a comb – made it way cuter. Still think it looks messy on me though but whatever it’s supposed to be casual.
Half-Up Space Buns Test
Saved this for last ’cause space buns always wreck me. Only took the top half of hair this time – split into two pigtails. Tried wrapping them into buns but one kept unravelling. Switched to twisting each section real tight before coiling, and used extra pins through the center. One bun still ended up bigger than the other LOL. Threw on funky star clips to hide the lopsidedness. Cute for pictures but took me 15 minutes – not exactly “quick” for me.
What Actually Works Daily
After all that fumbling? Claw clip wins hands down – under 60 seconds once you stop overthinking it. Half-up pigtails with a scrunchie are foolproof too. But the bubble ponytail? Might save it for when I have time. Main takeaway: ignore perfect reels, messiness looks better anyway. Also learned claw clips need textured hair so spraying dry shampoo first = game changer.
