Okay, so, I heard about this movie, “Dim Sum Funeral”. It sounded interesting, so I decided to give it a watch. Here’s how it went down.

First, I had to find the movie. I searched online, and it seemed like a bunch of platforms had it. They mentioned stuff like Roku, Prime Video, and even Hulu. I even saw something about Pluto TV having it for free, but with ads. Since it is a full-length movie on YouTube, I decided to check out YouTube first. I found a full movie without any ads, so I started to watch it from there.
Once I started the movie, I was in. This movie is about this Chinese-American family, and they’re dealing with their mom’s funeral. But it’s not just sad stuff, it’s got some funny moments too. The kids in the family, they’re all grown up now, and they have some issues with each other. They’re trying to do this traditional funeral for their mom, but things get a bit crazy. The grown children of an overbearing Chinese matriarch reunited for her funeral, I kinda thought it was interesting.
I saw some familiar faces in the movie. There was this actress, Bai Ling, and another one, Steph Song. They were both pretty good. The movie was mostly in English, but they had some Chinese parts too, which I thought was cool.
The movie is set in Seattle, but I read somewhere that they filmed it in Canada, in places like Surrey and Vancouver. I guess that’s common for movies, huh? They were directed by Anna Chi and it came out in 2008, according to what I found online, the movie had a mix of comedy and drama, which I liked. It kept things interesting.
Watching the movie took up a good chunk of my evening, but it was worth it. It made me think about family and all the drama that can happen, even during tough times like a funeral. I laughed, I almost cried, and I definitely thought a lot. I noticed that four surly siblings were grudgingly pulling together to perform a customary multi-day funeral for their mom in this movie, it was so touching!

After finishing the movie, I went online again to see what others thought. Some people loved it, others not so much. But hey, that’s movies for you, right? Everyone has their own taste.
Overall, I’d say watching “Dim Sum Funeral” was a good experience. It was a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions, but in a good way. If you’re into movies that mix family drama with some comedy, you might like this one. Just be ready for some touching moments, too.
