Okay, here’s my take on sharing my frozen dim sum Tesco experience, blog-style!

Frozen Dim Sum Tesco: My Honest Taste Test
Alright, so yesterday I was proper knackered after work, yeah? Couldn’t be bothered to cook a whole shebang, so I thought, “Right, let’s see what Tesco’s frozen aisle has to offer.” And that’s when I spotted it: the frozen dim sum. Looked alright on the box, decent price, so I grabbed a pack.
First things first, the prep. The box said you could steam ’em, microwave ’em, or even pan-fry ’em. I was feeling lazy, so microwave it was. Just poked a few holes in the plastic film, followed the instructions on the box, and zapped ’em for the recommended time. Bing!
Opened the microwave and, well, they looked a bit… sad. A bit pale and definitely not as appealing as the picture on the box. But hey, don’t judge a book by its cover, right?
So, I grabbed a plate, dolloped some soy sauce on the side, and tucked in. Now, I’m no dim sum expert, but I’ve had my fair share of decent stuff. These… weren’t the best.
The har gow (shrimp dumplings) were kinda sticky and the shrimp inside was a bit rubbery. Not a great start. Then I tried the siu mai (pork dumplings). These were a bit better, the pork filling had some flavour, but the wrapper was still a bit mushy. Not crispy or bouncy like I was hoping for.

I also tried the char siu bao (BBQ pork buns). These were probably the best of the bunch, the filling was sweet and savory, but the bun itself was still a bit doughy from the microwave.
Overall, it was… alright. It filled a hole, yeah? It was quick and easy, which is what I was going for. But honestly, if you’re after proper dim sum, I’d say either go to a restaurant or put in the effort to make your own. These frozen ones from Tesco are a decent fallback when you’re absolutely knackered and have no other options, but don’t expect them to blow your socks off.
Would I buy them again? Probably, if I was in a similar situation. But I wouldn’t go out of my way for them. They’re more of a “needs must” kinda meal. Next time, I might try steaming them to see if that makes a difference. Maybe they won’t be so mushy then.
Anyway, that’s my two cents on Tesco’s frozen dim sum. Give ’em a go if you’re curious, but don’t get your hopes up too high. Just being honest!
