Making Palace Dim Sum at Home: Easy Recipe Guide

Today, I wanna talk about making palace dim sum. It’s not as hard as you might think, even if you’re a beginner in the kitchen like me.

Making Palace Dim Sum at Home: Easy Recipe Guide

First, I had to figure out what kind of dim sum I wanted to make. There are so many options, like steamed, fried, baked and all that, but I decided to go with the classic steamed ones ’cause they seemed a bit easier.

Getting the Ingredients Ready

  • I got some ground pork and shrimp for the filling.
  • I grabbed some basic stuff like soy sauce, ginger, and garlic.
  • For the dough, I used regular all-purpose flour.

Then I started by making the dough. I just mixed flour and water in a big bowl. Kneaded it until it felt like soft playdough. It took a bit of elbow grease, but I got there.

Mixing the Filling

In another bowl, I tossed in the ground pork and shrimp with some chopped-up ginger, garlic, and a splash of soy sauce. I mixed it all together with my hands.

Next up, filling the wrappers. I rolled out the dough into these small, thin circles. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s homemade. I put a spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle. I tried my best to seal them up. Some looked like little purses, others… well, not so much.

Steaming the Dim Sum

I put water in a wok and brought to a boil over medium-high heat. Then I put the dim sum into the prepared basket. Finally I placed the basket in the wok and steamed them for about 15-20 minutes.

When they were done, I took them out and let them cool for a bit. Then I got to taste my creation. They tasted pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. I think with a little more practice, I could get even better. Next time, maybe I’ll try my hand at some fried dim sum, too. I heard spring rolls are a good start. Anyway, that’s how I made palace dim sum at home. It was a fun and yummy experience.
