My Go at a Simple Border Rangoli
Alright, so I had a bit of free time this afternoon and thought I’d try my hand at a really simple border rangoli. Nothing too complicated, just something quick for the doorway edge.

First up, I cleared the little space right by the main door. Swept it clean, wiped it down a bit. Didn’t want dust messing up the colors. Then I grabbed my stash of rangoli powders. I wasn’t planning anything fancy, so just picked out a few basic colors – white for the base line, maybe some red, green, and yellow. Kept it simple.
Getting the Line Down
I decided against using chalk first. Thought I’d just go for it. Took the white powder. Held the packet, or rather, just took a pinch between my thumb and index finger. Then I just carefully let the powder fall as I moved my hand along where I wanted the border. Tried to keep it sort of straight, like a thick-ish line running parallel to the door frame. It wasn’t perfectly straight, mind you, but good enough for a quick job.
Adding Some Color Dots
Okay, white line done. Looked a bit plain. So, I took the red powder next. Same technique, pinch and drop. I put little dots of red on top of the white line, spaced out maybe a few inches apart. Just simple round dots. Didn’t need to be perfect circles or anything.

Then, I grabbed the green. Put green dots in between the red dots. So now it was like red dot, green dot, red dot, green dot all along the white line. Starting to look a bit more cheerful.
A Little Extra Touch
Still felt like it needed something tiny more. Took the yellow powder. This time, I put even smaller yellow dots right next to the red and green ones, just on the outside edge of the white line. Like tiny companions to the bigger dots. Just a little pop.
And honestly, that was pretty much it. I stepped back, looked at it. Yeah, not bad for maybe 10-15 minutes work. It’s not a masterpiece, definitely rough around the edges, but it’s colorful and marks the space nicely. Super easy, barely any cleanup needed, just brushed stray powder away. Quick, simple, does the job. Happy with how it turned out for a quick practice session.
